Description

Rosette Nebula in the Hubble Palette. In the image, particularly visible if you zoom in for more detail, can be seen as yet unborn protostars appearing as dark globular structures at the tips of the long, dark tendrils, known as Bok Nebulae. At the center of the Rosette, the deep, dark cavity has been formed by the stellar wind radiating from the newly born star cluster, NGC 2239. Just below that can be seen several “small” dark blobs, each containing protostars still forming, along with their planetary systems. The shapes visible in the glowing mass of molecular clouds result from sculpting by the stellar wind from smaller stars born recently (in interstellar terms) over the last few million years.
